Understanding the MBTI Framework
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological types. It identifies 16 distinct personality types based on four key dimensions:
- E/I:Extraversion vs. Introversion - Where you focus your attention
- S/N:Sensing vs. Intuition - How you take in information
- T/F:Thinking vs. Feeling - How you make decisions
- J/P:Judging vs. Perceiving - How you approach the outside world
Research Foundation
The MBTI assessment was developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers during World War II, based on Carl Jung's 1921 book "Psychological Types."
